Lost Love

I, like thousands of others, was distraught at the recent shenanigans between Sky and Virgin media (basically a petty squabble between two billionaires - yes, Branson and Murdoch, I mean you!) which resulted in the loss of Sky One to all Virgin Media customers. That, of course, meant no Lost! Now hooked on this amazing series, I have recently been rewatching the entire saga from the beginning, obtaining the DVD boxsets of series one and two from eBay, and revelling in the "greatest show on television" (Matthew Fox said that, but then he would - he's in it!) Now, I either have to switch to Sky (which means changing phone suppliers, too!) or wait to buy the DVDs of series three when they eventually come out sometime later this year. That makes me so annoyed I feel like punching the television! Lost was literally the only show I watch on TV. I am not happy, and I'm sure there are many others in the same boat. Branson and Murdoch - sort it out! Or I'll never speak to either of you again!

Hi, Lee, I wandered in while googling the new issue of Hub - I wrote "Talent Search," so I guess we're TOC-mates. :)

Anyway, in case you weren't aware, you can watch most of this season of Lost on abc.com - the quality isn't great, but there are fewer commercials, so it's kind of a trade-off.

Thanks for the Lost tip, Sarah. Unfortunately, ABC won't allow me to watch the online episodes. Every time I try, a message comes up saying "only viewers within the USA can watch these full length episodes". Ah, so close! Guess I'll just have to wait.

How do you write? In silence? Or with heavy metal blasting out at full blast? I used to be able to write with my favourite music playing (usually on my headphones, especially if the kids were in bed). But in recent times I've found it increasingly hard to concentrate with music, particularly music with lyrics. Quite often now I will play a movie score soundtrack. Batman Begins is a favourite, as is John Carter . Recently, though, I've discovered some even more useful musical accompaniment on YouTube. The video below is a good place to start. Not quite 'ambient', more... 'atmospheric'. Puts me in just the right mood for composing prose. ['Comprosing'? Err, no.] Check it out. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams . . .

Twelve months ago I was in a bad place. The New Year was looming, I had some personal problems that were kicking my behind, and my writing career was not progressing the way I'd hoped. Then, on Jan 2nd, I received a late night phone call from America. It was Joni Labaqui from the Writers of the Future Contest. The story I had entered almost four months previous (and which, to be honest, I had forgotten about) had reached the final 8 of the quarter. Ms Labaqui assured me that my story was really good and that I was a talented writer. I almost cried. Part 1: Batman Begins (2005) Before I was a movie fan I was a comic fan. There's a geek moment in my life I recall even to this day with utter clarity. It's a Wednesday morning, about 7.30 AM. I'm sitting on the steps outside my friendly neighbourhood newsagents.
